U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division leadership came under attack during a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing on Tuesday about the DOJ’s relationship with state and local law enforcement.

Chaired by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, the subcommittee on Oversight, Agency Action, Federal Rights and Federal Courts conducted the hearing under the backdrop of federal investigations into more than a dozen police departments for civil rights violations since last year, including the shooting death of an unarmed black man by a Ferguson, Missouri, police officer.
