Legal fees: A federal district judge in Tennessee on Friday awarded the plaintiffs who successfully challenged the state’s same-sex marriage ban more than $2 million in legal fees and costs. The judge awarded less than the $2.3 million the plaintiffs asked for, but rejected the state’s request to cut the fee award in half, or at a minimum by 20 percent.

The National Law Journal reports that the latest fee award brings the total amount that states have agreed or been ordered to pay in marriage cases to more than $15.5 million.
