UNANIMOUS SCOTUS: “The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday upheld the longstanding practice of using total population in drawing equal legislative districts, embracing the ‘one-person-one-vote’ doctrine and frowning on a different approach that could have recast thousands of electoral maps,” reports Tony Mauro in the NLJ. The decision was 8-0.
GRASSLEY-GARLAND: Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, “spoke to Judge Garland early this evening and invited the judge to breakfast where they could discuss the nomination and why the Senate will not consider a nominee until the next President takes office,” Beth Levine, Grassley’s spokeswoman, said in a statement on Monday. The date has yet to be determined. ALSO: The NLJ’s Zoe Tillman reports on a letter signed by 68 of Garland’s former clerks urging Senate leadership take action on their old boss’s nomination. Garland on Tuesday is expected to meet with Republicans John Boozman of Arkansas and Susan Collins of Maine.
