Nomination day: President Obama made eight nominations Thursday to the federal bench, including Hogal Lovells partner Regina Rodriguez, the Denver Post reports. Although her nomination to a Colorado federal court comes late in Obama’s presidency, her chances of being appointed are buoyed by support from the state’s two senators. Meanwhile, a pair of District of Columbia Superior Court judges were nominated to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the NLJ’s Zoe Tillman reports.
‘Racial animus’: Fast food workers and civil rights groups sued Alabama’s governor on Thursday for signing a bill into law that bars cities from setting their own higher minimum wages, the Wall Street Journal reports. The lawsuit claims that the bill, which Gov. Robert Bentley signed in February, was tainted with “racial animus” toward the predominantly African-American city of Birmingham.
