Democratic senators seized on the delivery of Garland’s questionnaire to criticize Republicans for their continued reluctance to consider his nomination. Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee took turns Tuesday hitting on the same theme: Republicans are playing politics rather than fulfilling their constitutional obligation to consider and vote on the president’s nominee.

“Now we’ve had conservative voices on the far right admit that Judge Garland is a better choice for Republicans to approve than a potential Donald Trump nominee,” Sen. Charles Schumer, D-New York, said. “But thus far Republicans are holding fast to the Trump-strategy of delay, delay, delay on filling Justice Scalia’s seat.”
