Lily Hughes is general counsel at Public Storage, which operates about 2,300 self-storage facilities in 38 states. Public Storage also owns 49 percent of Brussels-based Shurgard Self-Storage, which has 217 storage facilities in seven Western European countries. Public Storage owns 42 percent of PS Business Parks Inc., an operator of industrial and office properties in the U.S.
Headquartered in Glendale, California, Public Storage has about 5,000 employees. Hughes said the employment trend is steady. Company revenue for 2015 was about $2.4 billion.
