Nearly two decades ago, the founders of Axinn, Veltrop & Harkrider left their Wall Street firms to build a smaller law firm that competed aggressively with larger Wall Street firms, while providing clients with the responsiveness they might expect from a boutique firm.

“Our competition is Skadden, Cravath and Davis Polk,” partner John Harkrider said. “Our challenge is we have to be better than those firms at what we do to be hired at all.”
