University of Missouri School of Law Dean Gary Myers announced May 27 that he will step down from the school’s top post on Aug. 14.

Although the announcement follows a lawsuit filed on May 25 involving an election for Missouri attorney general naming Myers as one of several defendants, a university spokesman said the litigation was not a factor in the dean’s decision to resign. The timeline of the announcement and his departure in August is relatively short—many deans disclose their intentions to step down a year or more in advance.
