Rod Boggs of The Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, stepped down this month after 45 years as executive director. Boggs, 75, joined the committee as executive director in 1971, and has dedicated his career to civil rights work including pro bono housing and employment discrimination cases, public education and prison reform matters. Boggs will serve in a senior advisory role, helping the new director, Jonathan Smith, the former executive director of the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia.
JUDGE OKS $27M LYFT DEAL
U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria of the Northern District of California has granted preliminary approval to a $27 million settlement that resolves a class action against Lyft Inc. over the independent-contractor status of its drivers, ending months of uncertainty about whether the deal would hold.
