The roughly $14.7 billion Volkswagen settlement agreement filed in San Francisco on Tuesday will not get the company off the hook for criminal charges over cheating on emission laws, U.S. Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates said Tuesday during a news conference.

“I assure you our criminal investigation is active and ongoing,” Yates told reporters. Yates added that the investigation is targeting “multiple companies and multiple individuals.” And she said the U.S. Department of Justice is working with German authorities on the case.
