A New York state judge has denied a request by news organizations to unseal records related to Donald Trump’s 1990 divorce from Ivana Trump. Supreme Court Judge Frank Nervo said that Trump’s status as a candidate for president wasn’t a reason for the court to undo a deal that Trump and his ex-wife reached to keep information about their marriage and their divorce confidential.

“If the court were to deprive the candidate party of his rights under the agreement and the statute on the ground that there may be something in the confidential file that would be useful in determining his fitness for office, that ground does not exist in the case of his former wife, who is not a candidate,” Nervo wrote.
