Is the country ready for an alien invasion or an epidemic of zombies? It’s not an unreasonable question, and Ajay Kumar asked it of the Home Ministry of Mumbai under India’s Right to Information Act. Kumar, a Mumbai resident, demanded to know in his RTI how prepared the country would be in the aftermath of an “invasion by aliens, zombies and extra dimensional beings” and “what means did the government have to defeat them.”

He further asked if “we can do this without Will Smith.” Minister for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju posted Kumar’s question on Twitter to emphasize the often frivolous nature of RTI requests. But Kumar told The Hindu that he had previously received glib responses to serious RTIs, and so “wasting a bureaucrat’s time is a sign of protest.”
