A federal judicial panel has ordered 40 lawsuits against Monsanto Co. over its RoundUp herbicide to be sent to U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria of the Northern District of California.

Monday’s order by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation gives Chhabria, who was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2014, his first multidistrict litigation proceeding. The panel appeared persuaded by the amount of discovery that had progressed in two of the first cases filed over RoundUp in the Northern District of California, which “allows us to assign this litigation to the Honorable Vince Chhabria, a skilled jurist who has yet to have the opportunity to preside over an MDL.”
