A major insurer of damage from Hurricane Katrina urged the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday to dismiss lawsuits by whistleblowers who violate a nondisclosure requirement in the federal law that targets fraud against the government.

In State Farm Fire and Casualty v. United States, ex rel. Rigsby, the justices heard arguments on when a federal court should dismiss a so-called qui tam claim by a private person for violating the seal provision in the federal False Claims Act.
