As President-elect Donald Trump sorts out his new administration in New York, his company’s lawyers in Washington are pressing ahead with legal action against the District of Columbia government over tax bills for his new downtown hotel.

The Trump family’s involvement with the hotel presents conflict-of-interest concerns as Trump prepares to lead the executive branch. The Trump Organization has a long-term lease with the General Services Administration for the property that’s now known as the Trump International Hotel. Agencies are supposed to avoid even the appearance of a conflict, so doing business with Trump or his children, who are involved in the presidential transition, presents a potential problem.
