Riding a wave of postelection enthusiasm among conservatives, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on Thursday urged hundreds of Federalist Society members to continue the work of the late Antonin Scalia in promoting originalism and limited government.

“Tonight I charge us with the following responsibility: that the words spoken and written by Justice Scalia not be the final words in support of originalism and constitutionalism,” Thomas said in a late-night speech at the society’s convention banquet, aired live by C-SPAN. “Rather, they ought to be a prologue.”
