On Sunday afternoon, Cleveland labor and employment lawyer Peter Kirsanow unexpectedly found himself face-to-face with President-elect Donald Trump.

Kirsanow had gotten the call the day before—he had been watching college football and catching up on work at the time, he said—asking him to come to Bedminster, New Jersey, where Trump was spending the weekend, to meet with the president-elect.
