The police mean business in the town of Kensington, Prince Edward Island. In an effort to crack down on drunk drivers, they’re not only promising to hit offenders with a fine and a year’s driving suspension, but something they appear to believe is more terrifying: Nickelback. A post on the Kensington Police Service’s Facebook page threatens to play music by the much reviled Canadian band in the car that takes the offender to jail. The post features a photo of Nickelback’s breakthrough CD, “Silver Side Up,” still shrink-wrapped. “So please,” the post continues, “let’s not ruin a perfectly good unopened copy of Nickelback. You don’t drink and drive and we won’t make you listen to it.”

Constable Robb Hartlen, who authored the post, told CBC News he was trying to treat the serious subject of drinking and driving with a bit of humor. And on the possibility of Nickelback’s hurt feelings, he said, “I’m sure they’re crying all the way to the bank.”
