Putting a client on the stand in a criminal jury case can be a risky move, but Steptoe & Johnson LLP partner Brian Heberlig believes that having former BP PLC executive David Rainey testify in his own defense sealed the deal for acquittal.

Rainey was charged with lying to federal investigators about the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill and obstructing a congressional investigation.
