A Chicago-based class action firm upped the ante Monday in a battle with objectors counsel, accusing three law firms of extorting millions of dollars from the plaintiffs bar over the past decade by demanding fee payments in exchange for dropping objections to settlements.

The suit, filed on Monday by Chicago’s Edelson PC, claims that the three firms— The Bandas Law Firm in Corpus Christi, Texas; the Law Offices of Darrell Palmer in Solana Beach, California; and Noonan Perillo & Thut of Waukegan, Illinois—have conspired as part of a racketeering enterprise to extort settlements from both plaintiffs and defense attorneys in class actions. The suit, which also names a principal at each of the three firms, asks that the payments be returned and for an order declaring the repeat objectors counsel to be vexatious litigants.
