This year saw significant changes in the way public corruption is prosecuted thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning former Virginia Gov. Robert McDonnell’s bribery conviction.

The justices’ June 27 decision in McDonnell v. United States narrowed the definition of an “official act” done for money, making it more difficult to prosecute public officials on bribery charges.
