7-Eleven Inc. is the largest chain in the convenience-retailing industry. Based in Irving, Texas, 7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses more than 61,000 stores in 17 countries, including almost 11,000 in North America.
Known for classic brands Slurpee and Big Gulp, 7-Eleven is said to have created the convenience store concept 90 years ago, when an ice-dock operator began offering milk, eggs and bread responding to his customers’ needs. The name originated in 1946, when stores began staying open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
