In South Dakota’s Indian Country, access to quality health care has been a real challenge, said Tim Purdon, a Robins Kaplan partner and former U.S. attorney in North Dakota.

On April 28, 2016, Purdon filed suit in federal court in South Dakota on behalf of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe against the federal government to reopen and properly staff the Rosebud emergency room, the only emergency room on the Rosebud Reservation. The suit was a big part of Robins Kaplan’s 2016 pro bono efforts on behalf of American Indians spearheaded by Purdon and Brendan Johnson, a former U.S. attorney in South Dakota, both of whom joined the firm in March 2015.
