When I read regulatory reporter Cheryl Miller’s cover story (“Sharp Curves Ahead: The Regulation of Driverless Cars”) on the growing patchwork of laws aimed at autonomous vehicles, I had an unusual impulse: to ride in a driverless car. I’m no thrill-seeker. But Miller’s comprehensive take makes a convincing case that driverless cars aren’t “if.” They’re now. Miller spots trendsetting test programs and laws around the country, as well as officials driving the action (watch for one particularly enthusiastic tweeter). She also interviews lawyers and analysts tracking the regulatory map.
Like other reports in this month’s NLJ, Miller’s piece addresses a common theme we’ll revisit in each upcoming issue: What does the Trump administration mean for regulation?
