In the pursuit of justice for victims of police shootings, Atlanta civil rights lawyer L. Chris Stewart has reached two milestones for his clients in North Charleston that he hopes will shape the future.

First, he managed to negotiate the biggest-ever settlement in such a case—$6.5 million—for the family of Walter Scott. A passerby caught video of a police officer shooting Scott five times in the back while he tried to run away.
