You Got Nothing Coming
by Jimmy A. Lerner
(Broadway Books, 397 pages, $24.95)

A book can be a safe way to travel to unsafe places and experience things that we hope will never happen in our lives. Jimmy Lerner has written just such a book. You Got Nothing Coming is a compelling narrative (almost a diary) of Lerner’s own involuntary sojourn within the razor wire confines of the Nevada correctional system. It is an honest account of life in prison at a time when budgets and politicians are devolving “correctional” institutions back into hard-time prisons. I know. Until recently, I lived in just such a place.
