Two top U.K. firms with U.S. aspirations are getting serious about making headway in the American market — and one is going so far as to re-evaluate the lockstep system of compensation.
In December megafirm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer tapped Theodore Burke, the 45-year-old American head of its New York office, to become chief executive in May. Burke will replace Londoner Hugh Crisp, who Freshfields says is stepping down for personal reasons. Burke would say only that he was “surprised” by the appointment and declined further comment.
