Electronic data discovery’s most famous plaintiff has answered the most burning question about her case: How do you pronounce Zubulake?

Laura “Zoo-boo-lake,” and retired U.S. Magistrate Judge L. John Carroll, appeared last month at a New York City luncheon sponsored by Kroll Ontrack Inc. They spoke about the internal dynamics of her landmark sex discrimination suit (Zubulake v. UBS Warburg LLC, 2004 WL 1620866 S.D.N.Y. July 20, 2004) and its lasting effects on EDD procedure. Zubulake, a 20-year Wall Street veteran at the time of the case, was no wallflower. “I don’t think there ever would have been a search for e-mails if I hadn’t gotten involved,” she said. “I rolled up my sleeves. I was the only person who knew who the key players were, and I could interpret their cryptic messages.”
