The changing of the guard at the Capitol has seen Republican committee counsel leave the Hill for law firms.
Recent departures include Marc Gerson, formerly the majority tax counsel for the House Committee on Ways and Means, who joined Miller & Chevalier as a member of the firm’s tax and government affairs departments, and Howard Waltzman, former chief counsel for the Telecommunications and the Internet Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, who started the New Year as a partner at the Washington office of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw.
Tim McClain, general counsel of the Department of Veterans Affairs from 2001 to 2006 and a 20-year Navy veteran, starts this week as of counsel at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, where he will focus on federal health-care issues.
Meanwhile, Alan Granwell, a senior partner at tax boutique Ivins, Phillips & Barker, jumped to DLA Piper’s tax practice last week. Granwell is expected to help build the firm’s international tax practice.
