Top U.K. firms score double-digit growth
The United Kingdom’s top 50 law firms have achieved their second year of double-digit revenue growth with an increase of 14% and profits per equity partner up by 13.5%, according to a new report.
The 14% revenue increase outpaced the average revenue increase of 12% at top U.S. firms, according to a 2006-07 report by Legal Week, a London-based legal publication.
Legal Week is a part of Incisive Media PLC, which recently announced it was purchasing ALM, the parent company of The National Law Journal. The 13.5% increase in profits per equity partner also beat out the 11.2% increase at U.S. firms in 2006, according to the report.
CIA leak suit by Plame is dismissed by judge
Former CIA operative Valerie Plame lost a lawsuit on July 19 that demanded money from Bush administration officials whom she blamed for leaking her agency identity.
Plame, the wife of former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, had accused Vice President Dick Cheney and others of conspiring to disclose her identity in 2003. Plame said that this violated her privacy rights and was illegal retribution for her husband’s criticism of the administration. U.S. District Judge John D. Bates dismissed the case on jurisdictional grounds and said he would not express an opinion on the constitutional arguments. Wilson v. Libby, No. 06-1258JJDB.
