Hard to believe as it seems, the Microsoft Corp. antitrust trial is winding down. Week 20 was something of a classic: The judge got fed up when Microsoft’s defense counsel didn’t seem to know when to quit asking questions. The government’s lead lawyer had a field day on cross-examination. Still more embarrassing Microsoft e-mails, including an “enemies’ list,” were revealed for public consumption.
The curtain will come down in one week, and both sides will retreat to write their briefs. But the trial, 72 days in hyper-reality, has rendered winners and losers. Herewith, the short list:
