Over the course of a six-month trial, the appellate judge’s opinion in Microsoft Corp.’s favor faded into the background, overshadowed by setbacks for the company such as Bill Gates’ abominable performance at his 27-hour deposition, the halting testimony from the defense economist who insisted that it was impossible to define a market for personal computers, and the defense videotapes whose value went up in flames as the prosecution showed that they had been staged, or worse, doctored.
