Rarely does a sentencing hearing focus on which prison will house the defendant for the rest of his life.

In an unusual proceeding Friday, the lawyer for convicted terrorist preacher Mustafa Kamel Mustafa used all of his time trying to keep his client out of the ADX Florence or “Supermax” prison in Colorado.

Attorney Sam Schmidt tried to convince Southern District Judge Katherine Forrest (See Profile) to recommend the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) send Mustafa, a firebrand cleric who recruited for al Qaida, to a medical facility because he is a double amputee up to the elbows who needs assistance to meet his daily needs.
