After three weeks of evidence, a federal jury took about three hours to convict Ross Ulbricht Wednesday on all charges of running the Silk Road website as an underground marketplace for illegal drugs with Bitcoins as the currency.

The jury, following instruction by Judge Katherine Forrest (See Profile), returned guilty verdicts on seven counts that could land the 30-year-old computer whiz a long stretch in prison.

Ulbricht, dressed in a blue blazer and tan slacks, reacted calmly to the verdict. Having been hailed pretrial as a champion of Internet freedom by a small group of demonstrators outside the courthouse at 500 Pearl St., the boyish Ulbricht turned and nodded reassurance to family and friends seated in the second row of benches.
