A major New York bar association is urging that the adoption of the Uniform Bar Examination be delayed for at least a year until a number of questions are answered about the impact of the change.
In a report released Tuesday, the New York County Lawyers’ Association said a delay would allow time to study whether the UBE would encourage unwelcome competition from out-of-state lawyers for those graduating from New York law schools, and whether there is evidence that minority and female test-takers tend to score worse on a UBE-based exam than white males.
