The value of worldwide M&A, at $854.2 billion, recorded its strongest opening quarter since 2007, according to the Thomson Reuters survey. It was up 25 percent from comparable 2014 levels.

The statistics include 27 deals worth more than $5 billion each, a 59 percent increase over the first quarter of 2014. Nearly 9,200 deals were announced, a decline of 3 percent.
