A Long Island attorney and his client will receive a $1.3 million settlement from a lawsuit that includes multiple defendants, including former Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, to resolve claims that they were targeted in a “pay to prosecute scheme/conspiracy.”

According to court papers, attorney Robert Del Col of Smithtown and his client, Leftheris Doukas, will get $650,000 apiece for the civil rights action they filed against Rice and others in her office, as well as DataTreasury, a patent holder of remote check processing technology, and several of its officials.

Del Col and Doukas were arrested and indicted for grand larceny. They claimed Rice was motivated by campaign contributions given to her by DataTreasury so that her office would press a criminal case against the pair. Del Col and Doukas had been fighting with DataTreasury over patent issues.
