Former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a superseding indictment on public corruption charges and said he welcomed a trial, which is set to start Nov. 2.

“I'm glad a trial date is set. I'm confident I will be vindicated after a full hearing on the facts,” Silver said after his arraignment before Southern District Judge Valerie Caproni.

Caproni set the trial date for Silver, who resigned as speaker but is continuing to serve in the Assembly pending the outcome of his criminal case.
