Southern District Judge Ronnie Abrams has narrowed a lawsuit brought by an attorney who claimed her former law firm “expropriated” her work, allowing other attorneys to take credit for clients and cases she brought to the firm.

While Abrams dismissed individual partners from the case and tossed several claims, she allowed New York attorney Preetpal Grewal to pursue claims for breach of contract, breach of implied covenant and hostile work environment against Cuneo Gilbert & LaDuca. The 20-attorney Washington, D.C.-based firm focuses on class action and consumer protection cases.

Abrams said Grewal “has sufficiently alleged multiple instances of [Cuneo Gilbert] partners and other attorneys acting in less than good faith, whether by taking credit themselves for client cases and cases plaintiff brought to the firm, interfering with [her] ability to work on key cases or assigning other attorneys to lead litigation initially developed by [Grewal].”
