A defense attorney sought Tuesday to deflect some of the responsibility for Dewey & LeBoeuf's alleged fraud conspiracy from his client, former executive director Stephen DiCarmine, to the firm's former chief operating officer, Dennis D'Alessandro.

DiCarmine is on trial with former Dewey & LeBoeuf chairman Steven Davis and ex-chief financial officer Joel Sanders for allegedly defrauding investors before the firm's collapse in 2012.

During cross examination of former Dewey partner Edward Nelson, Bryan Cave partner Austin Campriello said DiCarmine had almost no involvement in the return of Nelson's capital contribution at predecessor firm Dewey Ballantine.
