Lobbyists for a major real estate developer testified Friday that they met with former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver about rent regulation provisions under consideration in 2011.

Prosecutors called the lobbyists in the criminal trial against Silver to demonstrate that their client, Glenwood Management, influenced New York rent regulations while it paid Silver in campaign contributions and in alleged kickbacks.

The Southern District U.S. Attorney's Office claims Silver received kickbacks through two schemes. In one he was allegedly paid more than $3 million from 100-attorney Weitz & Luxenberg for cases referred to the firm by Dr. Robert Taub, an asbestos doctor. Silver secretly directed $500,000 in state funds to Taub's research center, and did other favors for the doctor, the government says.
