A day after being named presiding justice of the Appellate Division, First Department, Rolando Acosta said he was honored to have the chance to “implement changes that will be impacting” the court.

“It's important that the proper infrastructure is going to be there to bring the court in to the 21st century,” he said in an interview with the Law Journal Tuesday, adding that e-filing would “go a long way” in helping the court efficiently handle the volume of cases it sees each day.

Acosta's appointment was part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's announcement Monday of nine state Supreme Court justices to fill the last Appellate Division vacancies. Acosta's new role took effect immediately; the other justices will leave their trial court benches this week through the end of June.
