Suffolk County to Pay $7.5.M to Settle Sandy Death Suits

Officials have agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle lawsuits involving the accidental death of a 21-year-old college student on Long Island during Superstorm Sandy.
The settlement was announced this week. Newsday reported that the Suffolk County Legislature will vote Tuesday on borrowing $3 million for the settlement.
Stony Brook University student Vishwaja Muppa, of Edison, New Jersey, was killed and three other women were injured in October 2012. Officials say a county police car crashed into their vehicle at a darkened intersection in the hamlet of Port Jefferson Station at 1:20 a.m.
