A state appellate panel has indefinitely suspended the law license of William Baroni Jr., a former Port Authority official and one of the key figures behind the Bridgegate scandal that helped crush the presidential hopes of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

The Appellate Division, First Department, suspended Baroni's license on Tuesday. The New Jersey Supreme Court suspended Baroni's license in April, pending further disciplinary proceedings in which he could be disbarred.

“We have consistently held that during the pendency of a 'serious crime' proceeding, it is appropriate to suspend an attorney … who has been convicted of a felony and is facing a term of probation or imprisonment,” the per curiam panel said.
