The New York State Bar Association's House of Delegates will meet in Cooperstown on Saturday and is expected to vote on whether to support a constitutional convention.

The bar's Committee on the New York State Constitution, headed by Henry “Hank” Greenberg of Greenberg Traurig, has recommended a “yes” vote. The committee issued a report in late April saying the state “should not forfeit this rare, generational opportunity to modernize and significantly improve the Constitution.”

The committee recommended that the House of Delegates support the convention because it “presents the one practical opportunity this generation will likely have to modernize and restructure New York's court system. … For too long lawyers and their clients have had to accept and endure a costly and Byzantine system that few understand, and no one can justify.”
