Nicholas McQuaid, a deputy White House counsel to President Obama, joined Latham & Watkins as a partner on Monday, continuing Latham's hiring streak in New York.

The new hire comes within a week of Latham adding four litigators in New York from Kirkland & Ellis, while continuing to hire elsewhere. Firmwide, McQuaid is the 19th partner to join Latham this year, the firm said.

McQuaid served in the Southern District U.S. Attorney's office from 2007 to 2013, when he moved to the White House Counsel's Office. In his most recent position there, he led a team of seven lawyers responsible for handling investigation and litigation related matters at the White House. He dealt with congressional committees on investigations, including those into the Benghazi attacks, and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. He also prepared White House staff and cabinet officials for congressional hearings and other testimony.
