Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday afternoon signed a bill extending mayoral control of New York City schools for two years, capping off two days of an “extraordinary session” of the Legislature.

The Republican-led Senate, in a 48-2 vote, passed an omnibus bill that will extend mayoral control, which was set to expire on Friday, reauthorize a series of local sales taxes for three years, and rename the Tappan Zee Bridge after former Gov. Mario Cuomo, which was opposed by some in the Hudson Valley, including the daughter of former Gov. Malcolm Wilson after whom the bridge previously also was named.

The Democratic-dominated Assembly passed the bill in a 115-15 vote in the early hours of Thursday morning.
