The NYS Court Officers Academy Active Shooter Course is a comprehensive two-day program that provides uniformed personnel with the hands-on tactical skills necessary to respond to an active shooter incident. There is a strong emphasis on decision making, team formations, tactical searching, communication, use of cover and threat response.
Training begins with an in-depth classroom review of NYS Law and UCS policy regarding the use of force and deadly physical force.
Officers are outfitted with simunitions weapons while participating in practical exercises where they learn to navigate hallways, stairwells, and room entry techniques and tactical team formations. Lowlight situation drills are conducted requiring the use of flashlights to search for active shooters.
