Alvin Bragg, who was chosen to lead the New York Attorney General Office’s special investigations and prosecutions unit in 2015 that investigates cases where unarmed civilians die in interactions with law enforcement, has been appointed chief deputy attorney general by AG Eric Schneiderman, his office announced Monday.

Bragg came to the AG’s office in 2013, and was executive deputy attorney general of the Social Justice Division, where he oversaw the civil rights, charities, health care, environmental protection and labor bureaus. He’ll continue as head of the special investigations unit, and also oversee the Social Justice and Criminal Divisions. Chief Deputy Attorney General Janet Sabel, his counterpart, will oversee the Economic Justice and State Counsel Divisions, the office said.
