Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz of the Bronx was named head of the Judiciary Committee by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, replacing longtime Judiciary Chair Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein of Brooklyn.

Dinowitz, a graduate of Brooklyn Law School and former administrative law judge, has served on the Judiciary Committee for 20 years. The committee has jurisdiction over any legislation that may affect the courts in the state.

“The Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over legislation affecting not only the courts, but also estates, family law, domestic relations, civil rights, and many, many other areas. The work of this committee impacts the lives of all New Yorkers. I look forward to representing my constituents and the interests of all of the people of New York as Judiciary Committee chairman,” Dinowitz said in a statement Sept. 29.
